Health and vet check-up

All of our dogs are health tested. We test the whole Labrador panel for genetic testing which includes:

Centronuclear Myopathy,

Copper Toxicosis type ATP7A and ATP7B,

Degenerative Myelopathy,

Exercise- Induced Collapse,

Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis,

Macular Corneal Dystrophy,

Progressive Retinal Atrophy,

Progressive Rod- Cone Degeneration,

Retinal Dysplasia/ Oculoskeletal Dysplasia,

skeletal Dysplasia 2, and the

D-Locus gene (non-carrier).

They are also tested for OFA Hips, Elbows, and Echo (Heart). They get their eyes tested every year.

While the puppies are growing up in our care they will get wormed at 3,5, and 7 weeks of age. At the end of the 7th week we take the puppies to get looked over at our vet. All puppies get a full exam and their first round of shots. The day they will be going home all puppies are microchipped with AKC Reunite.

How our puppies are raised

We like to give our puppies the best start in life. All of our puppies are born in the home. This way we can control the temperature of the house for the puppies when they are very young. As they get older they get used to the sound of a household, which includes the vacuum, dishwasher, kids yelling, people cooking meals, mopping, doorbells, deliveries being made, visitors coming to the door and all the sounds of daily activity. As the puppy gets a little older we give them time to play outside in a controlled environment. We like to expose them to all different noises, which include hearing and seeing construction, trash trucks, sirens, seeing people and dogs walking by, and seeing the mailman.

We also do Imprinting on all of our puppies. Studies show that removing a puppy from the welping box during the first few weeks causes body temperature to fall below normal. This mild stress stimulates hormonal, adrenal, and pituitary systems. Studies showed that puppies that have early stimulation exercises matured faster, performed better than non-stimulated litter mates. We conduct these exercises from the 3rd day of life until day 16th.

There are 5 exercises we use. These are:

Tactical stimulation (between the toes),

head held erect,

head pointed down,

supine position, and

thermal stimulation.

Canine Genetic Eye Disease. Seller represents this dog’s parents who have been examined by a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ACVO) and determined to be free from major inheritable eye diseases. At Buyers request, seller will choose to either replace the dog or refund half the purchase price of the dog if not eligible for an OFA or CERF Eye Certification Number due to a major inheritable eye disease in this dog. In order for such a refund to vest in Seller, the Buyer must have an eye examination done by ACVO Diplomate and registered either with CERF or OFA annually from 12 to 24 months of age. If the second and examination supports the initial findings, Seller will either refund or replace the animal a specific below if requested by buyer. This warranty is void if his dog was Bred prior to its first ACVO eye exam or if it was neutered prior to 24 months of age without sellers written permission. Seller represents this dog’s parents have been examined by diplomate of the American College of internal veterinary medicine, cardiologist specialist (ACVIM-CS), and certified to be free of genetic heart disease, including but not limited to sub-arterial aortic stenosis. However, because of the nature of the disease, they can occur in dogs that have known ancestors were not affected. Sellers accordingly make no warranty, expressed or implied, that this dog will not develop inherited heart disease. At the buyer’s request, sellers will choose to either replace this dog or refund half the purchase price if the buyer produces an examination report from an ACVM-CS diplomate disclosing inherited heart disease in this animal based on echocardiographic examination of the heart. In order for such replacement or refund to vest in seller, the

buyer must have a heart examination done by an ACVIM-CS diplomate and register with one of the OFA when the dog is between 24 and 30 months of age. This warranty is void if the dog was bred prior to receiving an OFA cardiac clearance or if he was neutered prior to 18 months of age. Genetics: the seller tests all of her dogs for certain genetic traits. The list below explains to the buyer what is covered under this warranty. If said dog comes down with one of these genetic disorders, they must notify the seller immediately in order for a refund or replacement puppy. Buyer must prove disease by a licensed veterinarian and genetic testing must be complete. Seller is not responsible for any cost of the tests or services from a licensed veterinarian. All genetics are under warranty for 5 years.

Exercise-Induced collapse (EIC) This is a genetic disorder causing a dog to suffer from loss of muscle control followed by mild to extreme exercise. This disorder is caused by a mutation of the dynamin 1 gene. Because EIC is recessive a dog must have two copies of the mutation in order for the disease to manifest itself. Dogs typically show symptoms between five-month-old to 3 years of age. Normally the dog is working 5 to 15 minutes of mild to strenuous exercise and then collapses. Most of the time the dog is still conscious. After 10 to 20 minutes of rest they return to normal. Most dog’s recover quickly, but in severe episodes it can be fatal. The only treatment for EIC is avoiding mild to extreme exercise in activities that trigger this response. Dogs must be retired to a life of quiet indoor house pet lifestyle.

Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRCD- PRA) Is a medical classification that represents several inherited forms of retinal degeneration that are caused by mutations of different genes. PRCD or Progressive Rod Cone Degeneration is the form of the disorder in Labradors. This disease causes Degeneration of the retina leading to loss of vision. First the loss of night vision and then complete blindness of the dog. Typical onset for this is between ages 3 and 5 years old Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM) Is a medical condition that generalizes loss of muscle tone and control. Puppies are born apparently normal. However, it quickly becomes evident that there is a problem. Puppies will often not gain weight due to the increased muscle tone in the esophagus. By age 2 to 5 months the disease has usually progressed to display the full range of symptoms, including a loss of muscle tone and control, an awkward gait and extreme exercise tolerance. This condition gets worse in cure.
